Leatherback sea turle project on the go!
Since the beginning of 2018, PWCC team jointly with some international volunteers started a series of field trips, conducting community interviews and surveys looking for evidence of nesting sites of the Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) sea turtle. Although we donĀ“t have real evidence yet, the interviews with local residents of the remote south coast of Veraguas province indicate we are close to our target! Locals reported the nesting of leatherbacks in some beaches around the area last year. This gives us hope to continue and do not give up, after all this unique reptile is on the edge of extintion and every single female nesting site counts.
