Cerro Hoya: Dry Forest Patrol & Great Green Macaw Protection

Embark on a mission where exploration transforms into active conservation. Our expedition takes you to the frontline of Panamanian wildlife defence.

Join our patrols in the rare dry forests of Cerro Hoya to track and protect the Azuero Great Green Macaws (Ara ambiguus). This is not a simple guided tour; it is a specialized field expedition designed to collect vital data in territories where every observation is critical for the continued survival of these majestic birds.

The Expedition

This safari offers a truly off-the-beaten-path dry tropical forest experience. Listen to the call of howler monkeys and enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean heading toward Cerro Hoya, while participating in exploration activities focused on Great Green Macaws and the appreciation of Azuero's unique landscape.

The expedition begins at Hotel Heliconia on the west coast of the Azuero Peninsula. Cerro Hoya is one of the last remaining remnants of mature dry forest in the region and is home to birds, reptiles, amphibians, monkeys, and endemic species within an exceptional conservation landscape.
